West Yorkshire is a metropolitan county within the Yorkshire and the Humber region of England with a population of 2.2 million, which came into existence as a metropolitan county It is a landlocked county that consists of five metropolitan boroughs (City of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, City of Leeds and City of Wakefield) and shares borders with the counties of Derbyshire (to the south), Greater Manchester (to the south-west), Lancashire (to the north-west), North Yorkshire (to the north and east) and South Yorkshire (to the south-east).
It is dominated by the scenery of the eastern slopes of the Pennines, dropping from upland in the west down to the east, and dissected by numerous steep-sided valleys. There is a close conjunction of large scale industry, urban areas and transport routes with open countryside. The dense network of roads, canals and railways and urban development, confined by valleys creates dramatic interplay of views between settlements and the surrounding hillsides. Further east there is a rolling landscape with hills, escarpments and broad valleys.
The many rivers include the Wharfe and the Aire and Calder that drain the area, flowing from west to east.
The 127 mile long Liverpool & Leeds Canal is now mainly used for recreation including fishing. There are also numerous ponds, lakes and reservoirs and commercial coarse and trout waters, many of which are listed below along with the clubs and societies available for West Yorkshire anglers to join.
There are plenty of tackle shops too, to feed your fishing habit!

We are a very well established association with two prolific waters to offer. The first being Mann Dam which is situated in Cleckheaton, very close to the town centre, with close car parking facilities and easy access. The second being Longbottoms Dam, which is situated off church lane in Birstall, also having good on road parking at the side of the dam. We are backed by a dedicated committee and local bailiffs who maintain both waters and are only too pleased to give advice and help to all.

Walton Angling ClubWebsite
Wakefield - Walton Angling Club was established in 1880, which makes it one of the oldest Angling Clubs in the River Clyde catchment area. In the beginning it was an exclusive club, formed by a group of wealthy businessmen from the city of Glasgow. As the surrounding countryside disappeared to new housing developments, more and more local folk wanted to join the club. Gradually it became less exclusive and attracted a more representative cross section of the population.
