Northamptonshire is what one might call an 'angling county'. There is almost something for everyone as only the sea anglers dip out. There are several of the finest and most well-established still waters in the UK for fly-fishing for trout. There are numerous lakes, farm ponds and old gravel workings offering specimen hunting and pleasure fishing as well as many club waters used for a thriving match fishing culture. Most lakes and fisheries are privately owned but the water authorities control a number of large reservoirs and several local authorities encourage fishing in municipal parks and so forth. There are even a few age-old estate lakes some that have never been stocked in modern times. Several canals transect the county as do a number of good fishing rivers such as the Nene. Clubs also abound with socieities for particular areas and some strong clubs for large employing organisations. There are even a feew places where you can holiday and fish at the same time... although it is not generally a county that caters in this way.
