The current record carp was caught from Conningbrook Lake Ashford and in recent years the upper reaches of the River Medway yielded the record Barbel and the record Perch once came from a small lake in the Weald of Kent. A number of club or day tickets waters offer the pleasure angler the chance to escape the stresses of life and relax in pleasant surroundings and at the same time enjoy a good days sport. There are even a few stretches of water under Environment Agency control which offer free fishing, so long as you hold a licence.Three main rivers, Medway, Stour and Rother offer plenty of opportunities for the pleasure angler, specimen hunter and match angling and not to forget lesser known but equally productive rivers such as the Beult, Teisse and Eden all of which hold excellent stocks of chub, dace, pike and roach, especially in the upper reaches in the west of the county. The Royal Military Canal is another great venue and stretches from Iden Lock in the west to Seabrook in the east and is stocked with quality carp, pike, tench, bream and other common fresh water fish.Kent has a long history of gravel, clay and chalk extraction which means that it has numerous man-made lakes that are now mature waters and many have been fisheries for 50 or 60 years offering a wide range of lake fishing possibilities if you join your local club or syndicate.
And if fly fishing is your thing there is Bewl Reservoir, trout fishing on the River Great Stour or several good day ticket fisheries.
For the sea angler, with one of the longest coastlines of any English county to the north, east and south, Kent has on offer a range of shore or boat fishing, whether it’s a from the shingle beach at Dungeness or perhaps a charter boat wreck fishing from Ramsgate or from the pier at Deal the sea angler in Kent will never go without choice of venues.
