Moreover, there are fast flowing chalk streams to excite flyfishermen and slower clear waters holding chub and barbel.My late father-in-law fished several lakes within reach of Bournemouth and never had a bad days fishing. He was fond of telling people that he had been fishing for 85 years and was still learning. He introduced me to small carp pools, larger coarse lakes and even small rivers where I failed miserably to connect with barbel. But Dorset is Hardy's county and its countryside is so typically English it is hard to feel despondent when the fish don't bite as the rolling hills and swaying oaks keep your spirits up and many a bite is missed while being distracted by birdsong or butterflies, dragonflies and dappled shade on a warm summer day.

View of the bay is interesting with many boats moored on the opposite bank to which most people fish from. The primary fishing location is on the grass bank by the cycle/footpath.
