The Faroe Islands are an island group situated between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, approximately halfway between Great Britain and Iceland. The Faroe Islands are a constituent country of the Kingdom of Denmark, along with Denmark proper and Greenland. The total area is approximately 1,400 square kilometers consisting of 18 major islands with a 2010 population of almost 50,000. Its coordinates are 62°00′N 06°47′W. It has no major lakes or rivers but there are 1,117 kilometres (694 miles) of coastline.
