The Caribbean has a reputation almost second to none for big game fishing. Perhaps this is due to its virtues being sung by one particular literary giant - Ernest Hemmingway. He spent many a summer chasing marlin off Cuba and, of course, wrote about its virtues.

These days several island nations and regions base their economies on tourism in general and angling tourism in particular. Bonnaire for example, has many charter boats for deep sea and in-shore fishing. Curcao offers wonderful beach fishing, and many islands encourage the growing sport of flyfishing the 'flats'.

All year round sun and clear oceans tempt many fisherfolk from the northern winters to soak up the sun and wet their lines on Central America's coasts.

Freshwater anglers need not despair as their are growing opportunities in the lakes and rivers from fly-fishing for trout to boat fishing for latin american species.
