Gauteng offers the serious Carp hunter the opportunity to test their skill against the best that Mother Nature has to offer. The Province offers the most varied forms of freshwater Angling. There are several Specimen dams in the Johannesburg vicinity, with monster sized Carp being caught on a regular basis. The most commonly frequented dams are all situated within a 100 kilometer radius from the city. Rietvlei dam has been known for its 15 Kilogram plus Carp regularly taken on Boilies. Florida Lake is situated in the middle of the city, with monster 20 Kilogram Carp readily caught by specimen anglers. Donaldson dam is probably the most famous dam in the Johannesburg area, as it appears in most of the Specimen Angling magazines. This dam is famous for the monster Carp that lurk in its murky water, with several Carp of 25 plus Kilogram taken by the serious specimen anglers that frequent this beautiful dam.

The Vaal River and Vaal Dam offers a vast variety of freshwater fishing for the enthusiast. This includes Specimen Angling for the Monster Carp that lurk beneath the rippled surface, fly fishing for Yellow Fish in the shallows. Hartebeespoort Dam is situated about 80 Kilometers North of Johannesburg. This beautiful 47 Kilometer dam offers a variety of fishing for all different calibers of anglers. The dam hosts several species of Bream, Carp, Largemouth Bass (American) and some of the biggest Sharp tooth Barbel in the country.

With many resorts located on the banks, it is a preferred venue for families that wish to make the most of their relaxation time.
