The Free State Province hosts the magnificent Orange River with the indigenous species of Smallmouth and Largemouth Yellow fish, Carp and Sharp-tooth Barbel reaching 40 kilogram.

The Vaal River runs through most of the Free State with Largemouth Bass (American), Yellow fish, Carp and Sharp tooth Barbel. The Vaal River and Vaal Dam offers a vast variety of freshwater fishing for the enthusiast. This includes Specimen Angling for the Monster Carp that lurk beneath the rippled surface, fly fishing for Yellow Fish in the ankle deep rapids.

It is definitely a place to visit for the keen angler. With many resorts located on the banks, it is a preferred venue for families that wish to make the most of their relaxation time.
